West Irving Branch Flood Control
Irving, Texas

NDM completed a flood reduction project for the West Irving Branch. The initial evaluation included updated HEC-1 modeling to define the benefits of existing detention facilities and HEC-2 modeling of existing channel improvements. Resulting flood information was used to define areas of residential flooding. Alternative improvements were considered that included additional detention, channel modifications, and bridge improvements. Construction plans were prepared that included the addition of two 10.5-foot by 10-foot reinforced concrete boxes to the existing box culverts, bridge replacement with double crown span bridge, channel expansion, drop structure, drainage improvements, roadway modifications, utility adjustments, and erosion protection. The project included CLOMR and LOMR submittals to FEMA.
